HVAC Unit Not Cooling? How To Know If You Need To Replace It

Now that the weather is warming up, this is not a good time for your HVAC unit to stop cooling. Keep reading to learn of two problems it may be having. You can then determine if you should repair the air conditioning unit or if this would be a good time to have a new one installed.

Wrong Size

If you notice your HVAC unit is cooling only parts of your home and other areas are much hotter, it could be the wrong size. This can cause many problems with the unit. For example, it will have to work much harder to keep your home cool which will cause components to fail sooner than they should. This will also increase your monthly energy bill.

Contact an HVAC contractor and they can determine if the unit needs to be replaced with a larger one. You may have recently added to your home, or your family size may have increased lately. If so, installing a new one will drastically change the way your home cools. The contractor can go over the different types of air conditioning systems you can choose from, as systems today are much more energy efficient than older systems.

Clogged Filters and Ducts

Check the air filter to ensure it does not need to be changed. If it is clogged air cannot get through the filter and into your home to provide you with cool air. You also need to hire an air conditioning service to check the ductwork for you. Over time ductwork can get damaged, which will reduce airflow that comes through the vent registers. This airflow may be reduced enough that your entire home will not be cool. Ducts can get rips in the seams, or you may have rodents that have chewed through them.

An air conditioning repair service can seal rips in the ductwork if there is not a lot. If the ductwork system is older, however, this may be a good time to replace the ductwork with all new. The air conditioning repair service can determine if you should do this. If you are getting a new air conditioning system installed, this would also be a good time to replace the ductwork, so the entire system is the same age.

The air conditioning repair service can tell you of other issues you can have that will cause your unit not to cool properly.
